Split

Several prints in one contract on one exchange within seconds, 100 contracts or more in all.

A split is a large order worked as several fills on one exchange in quick succession. It's patient where a sweep is urgent: the order stays on one venue and takes what comes rather than crossing to every exchange at once.

A flow is a split when its trades in one contract, each less than 5 seconds after the last, came from one exchange, number more than one, and add up to 100 contracts or more and $100,000 or more in premium. Single-leg trades only.

Reading one

Splits are usually less telling than sweeps; algorithms routinely work large orders this way. The direction and quote side still say which way it leaned and whether it paid up.
