Connect your AI

Adding Theta Vantage to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI apps as a connector, signing in without a key, and what your AI can do once it's connected.

Add Theta Vantage to the AI app you already use, and you can ask it about dealer positioning, the option chain, IV rank, earnings dates, and company fundamentals there, with the same numbers and, where the app can show them, the same charts as the pages. Apps call this kind of add-on a connector, or a remote MCP server. You sign in with your Theta Vantage account in the browser; there's no key to copy.

The address

Every app needs one address:

https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp

The same address, with a copy button, is on the Connect your AI part of the AI page, which the plug button in the top bar opens until you've connected an app.

Or let your AI do it

Paste this into your AI app and it adds the connector itself, then checks it with SPX's key levels:

Add the Theta Vantage MCP server to your connectors as a remote MCP server (streamable HTTP) at https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp. It signs in with my Theta Vantage account in the browser, so no API key is needed. Once it's connected, list a few of its tools, then tell me SPX's key levels.

Step by step

Claude

  1. In Claude (the web or the desktop app), open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Theta Vantage and paste the address: https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp
  4. Choose Add, then Connect, and sign in to Theta Vantage.
  5. In a chat, turn Theta Vantage on from the + menu, then ask about a ticker.

Claude's free plan allows one custom connector.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps and Connectors, and choose Create.
  2. Name it Theta Vantage, paste the address, and pick OAuth: https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp
  3. Create it, then sign in to Theta Vantage when ChatGPT asks.
  4. In a chat, add Theta Vantage from the + menu.

Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan with developer mode on (Settings, Apps and Connectors, Advanced).

Grok

  1. Open grok.com, then Connectors, and choose New Connector, then Custom.
  2. Paste the address: https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp
  3. Sign in to Theta Vantage when Grok asks.

Custom connectors are on paid Grok plans.

Claude Code

  1. In a terminal, run claude mcp add --transport http theta-vantage https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp
  2. In Claude Code, run /mcp, pick theta-vantage, and sign in.

Cursor

  1. In Cursor, open Settings, then MCP, and add a new server.
  2. Use this, then save: {"mcpServers":{"theta-vantage":{"url":"https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp"}}}
  3. Sign in to Theta Vantage when Cursor asks.

Other apps

  1. Any app that adds remote MCP servers (connectors) over HTTP can use Theta Vantage: VS Code, Goose, and others.
  2. Add a server with the address: https://api.thetavantage.com/mcp
  3. Sign in to Theta Vantage when the app asks. There's no key to paste.

The steps name the place in each app's settings, since apps move their menus from time to time. If a step doesn't match, look for Connectors, Apps, or MCP in the app's settings.

What your AI gets

  • 42 tools. Free gives your AI SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM: key levels, gamma, the expected move, the chain, and more, plus company data and earnings dates for any stock. Pro opens every ticker and tool.
  • 47 tools. Pro gives your AI every tool and ticker, with the same charts and numbers as here.

Your AI sees only the tools your plan opens, so a Free account gets Free's tools rather than errors. The full list, with what each tool does, is on Tools for your AI app.

Each answer carries the time its numbers are as of. Apps that show interactive views draw the same gamma profile, heatmaps, and levels as the pages, in the app's own light or dark theme, with Open in Theta Vantage under each. Apps that don't show views get the key figures as text.

Quick reads in your AI app

Athena's four quick reads (morning levels, the close recap, an earnings reaction, and a spotlight) are in your AI app too. Ask for one in plain words ("give me the morning levels for SPY"), or pick it from the app's prompt menu where it has one (in Claude, the + menu or typing /): each asks for its ticker. Free has three of them on SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM; Pro adds the earnings reaction and covers any ticker.

Your preferences apply in your AI app too. What Athena remembers about you doesn't: it stays with Athena.

Disconnecting

Remove the connector in your AI app's settings. The AI apps section of your account page lists the apps you've connected, with when each was last used. Deleting your account also removes the record of the apps you connected.
