Athena

Asking Athena about levels, gamma, the chain, flow, and your watchlist, the brief and quick reads, how it gets its numbers, your conversations, what it remembers, and each plan's allowance.

Athena is Theta Vantage's assistant. Ask in plain words, about any ticker or trade, and it answers with Theta Vantage's numbers and shows the charts behind them as the pages draw them. Open it from Ask Athena, near the top of the pages rail, or at /SPX/ai. The page's ticker goes with each question, so "here" and "this ticker" mean it.

What to ask

  • "What are SPX's key levels?"
  • "Is QQQ in positive or negative gamma, and what does that mean for today?"
  • "What's NVDA's expected move this week, and where's the put wall against it?"
  • "Which SPY put around 0.15 delta pays the most for the risk this Friday?"
  • "Price a 5-wide iron condor on SPX at the expected move."
  • "How is my watchlist positioned?" or "Add TSLA to my watchlist."
  • "Tell me when SPY loses zero gamma." Athena shows the watcher. Press Save watcher on it, or say yes, to keep it.

Brief me

Brief me asks Athena for a short brief on your watchlist, before the open or any time. For each of the first eight tickers on your list, in your order, it gives one line: where the price sits against zero gamma, the walls, and max pain; what changed since the last close; IV rank; earnings in the next two weeks; and any watcher close to firing. It ends with what to watch at the open, and gives the time the levels are as of. It describes the market and doesn't suggest trades. Your key levels for the page's ticker show above it.

Press Brief me in a new conversation on the AI page, or Brief me at the top of your watchlist. It's asked as your own question ("Brief me on my watchlist.") and counts like any other: one of Free's three a day, or about 37K of Pro's tokens. On Free it covers the list's SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM and names the rest as Pro's. With an empty watchlist it covers the page's ticker (on Free, SPX if the page's is Pro's) and says how to add tickers.

Quick reads

Four reads you can ask for with one press, under Brief me in a new conversation, or from Quick reads under the box you type in once a conversation is going:

  • Morning levels: one ticker before the open. The regime and what it means for the session, zero gamma and how far it is, the walls, max pain, the heaviest strikes, what moved since the last close, and the level that changes the picture.
  • Close recap: SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM after the close. What the session did, which moved most, what changed in their positioning, and what that means for the next session.
  • Earnings reaction: a company's last report. Results against estimates, how the stock moved against the move options priced, what implied volatility did, and the levels now.
  • Spotlight: one ticker now. The most notable thing about its positioning, the levels, IV and IV rank, earnings ahead, and the session's largest flows.

Each is the page's ticker's (the close recap covers the four), asked as your own question ("Give me the morning levels for MU.") and counted like any other. Each ends with the levels to watch, highest first, and describes the market rather than suggesting trades.

On Free, quick reads cover SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM; the spotlight leaves options flow out, and Earnings reaction shows its lock, since it's part of Pro. Pro covers any ticker; on a fund's or an index's page there's no earnings reaction to ask for. In your own AI app the same four are tools and prompts: see Connect your AI.

How it answers

Numbers come from Theta Vantage. For anything about the market (a level, a quote, a greek, a flow), Athena looks it up with the same tools the pages use, on your plan, and shows each result as its chart or table with the time it's as of. The charts come first, as Athena looks them up, and its answer is written under them. It doesn't quote a remembered price as current.

Figures it works out are shown. Yield on collateral, an annualized return, a breakeven, a distance to a level: Athena calculates them exactly and shows the inputs and the formula, so you can check the arithmetic.

General knowledge is labelled. Where no tool covers a question (how a strategy works, why a stock moved last year), Athena answers from what it knows and says so, noting that anything time-sensitive may be out of date.

Trade questions get answered. Ask "should I sell this put?" and Athena reasons through it with the data: the strike against the walls and the expected move, the premium, the breach rate. It's information to help you decide, not advice. The terms say so, and so does the line under the composer.

Positioning answers carry the read: a few plain sentences on the regime, where the price sits against the levels, and what changed, filled from the same numbers as the chart, so the words and the chart can't disagree.

Conversations

Every conversation is saved, titled with its first question, and listed beside the chat; reopen one and its charts are as they were when answered. New conversation starts fresh.

Delete a conversation (the trash icon) or all of them (Delete all), and they leave your list for good. Theta Vantage keeps a copy to review abuse and misuse of the service while your account exists; deleting your account removes it. The privacy policy has the details.

Memory

When you tell Athena something lasting about how you trade ("I mostly trade SPX 0DTE credit spreads", "I've switched to 30 delta", "Keep answers short"), it keeps a short note and uses it in later conversations. A line under that answer says what it kept: "Remembered: Trades SPX 0DTE credit spreads" with Manage memory. When you change your mind, Athena keeps a newer note beside the old one and goes by the newest; delete either on the account page.

The Memory section of your account page lists every note with its date. Delete one, delete all, or turn memory off (Remember how I trade): Athena then saves nothing new and doesn't use what's kept, and the notes stay until you delete them. It keeps at most 50, never a price, a level, contact or payment details, or anything like a password. Only you see them: they aren't shown to your connected AI apps or to Theta Vantage's admins.

Your preferences, the default risk profile and target delta, also go into Athena's answers when you don't say.

Allowance

PlanWhat you can ask
Without an accountSign in to ask
Free3 questions a day, reset at midnight ET, on SPX, SPY, QQQ, and IWM (company data for any stock)
Pro2M tokens a month, reset on the 1st (UTC), any ticker

The composer shows what's left ("2 of 3 questions left today", or tokens used and left on Pro). A typical question uses tens of thousands of tokens, more when it looks up several things, so 2M is around sixty questions a month. On Pro, Athena packs add tokens for the current month, bought right there or from your account page, which show each pack's size and price. Unused tokens don't carry over.

Elsewhere

The same answers, charts, and tools are in your own AI app once you connect it. The tool list shows what each plan opens.
