A sweep is an aggressive order routed across multiple exchanges to fill at any liquidity available. Sweeps are typically associated with traders willing to pay up for speed — often a sign of conviction or news-driven positioning.
What is a golden sweep?
A golden sweep is a high-premium, large-size sweep that meets aggressive directional criteria — paying at the ask, sub-30-day expiration, and significant total premium. They tend to mark institutional bets rather than hedges.
How is direction (bullish vs bearish) determined?
We compare each print to the prevailing bid and ask. Trades at or above the ask on calls (or at/below the bid on puts) skew bullish; the inverse skews bearish. Mid-market prints are tagged neutral.
Are dark-pool options trades included?
Yes — off-exchange and ISO prints are tagged separately so you can isolate flow that did not show up on the live exchange tape.
