What does open interest tell me?
Open interest is the number of contracts currently held by traders. Strikes with high OI tend to act as gravitational levels into expiration and signal where dealer hedging will concentrate.
Why does IV vary by strike?
Implied volatility differs across strikes because supply and demand for protection (puts) and upside speculation (calls) is uneven. The pattern — the volatility smile — is visible on the IV Smile page.
